How Is Pet Food Manufactured?

Pet Food

Pet food is food specifically for pets and small animals such as dogs or cats. Its main role is to provide all kinds of pets with the most basic life security, growth, and health needs of nutrition.

Although pet food is animal feed, it is different from chicken, duck, fish, and cattle feed. It lives in an urban family; The real consumer of cat or dog food is the cat or dog. However, the money to buy pet food is spent by pet owners, who do not pursue profits and pay more attention to the quality and brand of pet food rather than the price, so they belong to high-end consumers. Therefore, the pet food processing business has broad investment prospects.

Now, the establishment of pet food processing plants to produce high-quality pet feed pellets has become a hot project. Therefore, developing the pet food production business is an excellent choice for many investors to obtain long-term profits. If you are interested in setting up a pet food processing plant to make feed pellets for your dogs, cats, and other animals, then SENA may be your best bet!

Pet food manufacturing technology

Pet food processing refers to the use of all necessary methods to maximize the potential nutritional value of dogs, cats, and other pets. In fact, it means to change the raw materials, shapes, palatability, and other characteristics of pet food in certain ways, so as to maximize the value of pet feed particles. In order to ensure the full and safe use of food nutrition in the process of pet food manufacturing, the raw materials used must be processed to different degrees.

Raw material receiving and cleaning process

Prepare and wash all the ingredients for pet food.

Grinding process

It ensures that all materials are pulverized to the desired size or powder.

Mix

The mixing process is the key process in pet food production. The basic process is to weigh different weights of raw materials according to the formula, then pour into the crusher for crushing, and then temporarily store all materials in the storage bin. Then all the ingredients are ready and sent into a blender to mix.

Pet food extrusion process

Extrusion is a high-temperature, short-time heat-treatment process. It can not only reduce the degradation of food nutrients and improve the digestibility of protein starch but also destroy anti-nutrients and microorganisms. Through the different mold (template) of the feed puffing machine, pet dry food of various shapes such as round, triangle, flower and bone can be produced. In pet food production, fat is often added to improve the palatability of pet food, which is done during the conditioning process. In addition, in order to give different colors to pet food pieces, manufacturers often add coloring water to the extrusion chamber.

The drying process

The drying section is mainly used to remove moisture from puffed pet food. After extrusion, the material is soft and the water content reaches 20~30%. After the drying process, the moisture of the finished product is controlled at 8%~10% to ensure that the material can be stored in a certain period of time.

Grease spraying process

Oil is the best energy source, according to the needs of pet growth, add 2% to 40% of oil in the formula. We recommend that the fat content in the formula, i.e. the total oil content in the extruder, be controlled within 12%. If the oil content is required to exceed 12%, the firmness of granular materials will be significantly reduced. If the oil content of the extruded material is more than 12%, it is recommended to add excess oil after drying. Depending on the amount of oil added, it can be used under atmospheric pressure or vacuum spraying. External spraying will make the appearance of pet food more attractive. In addition to oil, powdery attractants were sprayed to increase the palatability of pet feed.

Cooling and sieving process

The main purpose of the cooling section is to cool the dry material from high temperature to near room temperature and take away some moisture. In addition, ineligible food tablets will be separated from eligible food tablets during this process.

Pet food packaging process

Some manufacturers pack the same shape of pet food into a bag, while others mix several different shapes and colors of pet food into a bag. Conventional weight includes: 5kg, 1kg, 500g, 20g, and 20-50kg bags.
